Babymoon!

IMG_8969.JPG

Ending 2020 with the appearance of Baby Jodele! She’s due on December 27! Even though my baby bump is huge, it’s still hard to believe there is a baby in there. Only two weeks to go!

It’s been very strange to have such personal happiness in a terrible year. I am so grateful to have gotten pregnant and I’ve been paranoid about putting anything on the Internet about it for some reason. It’s been a quiet time for Joe and me. I’ve bought 2 maternity shirts and 2 maternity leggings because I don't really go much of anywhere and I didn’t want to spend the money. I did rent maternity jeans, sweaters and overalls from Nuuly for a month and that was fun.

Ever since the pandemic started, I’ve been obsessed with reading about studies and data about it (I wanted to be an epidemiologist in high school and fight Ebola after reading “The Hot Zone” but then I got a C in higher level biology). I’m also incredibly worried about lockdowns and small business owners and rising inequality and school closures. I am stuck in a loop reading tweets and yelling at the TV news and it’s so unhealthy. I wish I could fast forward 10 years and find out exactly how this thing spreads and the implications of all of our responses.

Back on topic, I feel like being pregnant helped keep me somewhat sane and have a very joyful distraction. It made me think a lot about risk and life and what’s important and the things we can and can’t control. I believe many aspects of parenting will probably fall under the “can’t control” category.

We did a little staycation babymoon right before Thanksgiving at The Line in Adams Morgan! Gotta stay at the hip hotels while we can. It felt very safe. I didn’t see a single soul on our floor. It was mainly a trip devoted to eating. We got takeout from Tail Up Goat, Cafe Spoken in the hotel, donuts and coffee from Elle, and an outdoor dining excursion to Mintwood Place (they had a whole section for diners with dogs, it was great). We also walked around my old stomping grounds in Mount Pleasant and in Kalorama, which is a fairytale mansion land that plebes like me can hardly believe exists.

Katie got to come with us, since The Line is dog-friendly. How at home does she look in this stylish hotel? This is where she’s meant to be. I want to straight up copy the room at our house, love the look so much. Do you think she’s spoiled? Don’t answer that. Katie’s world is about to get rocked by a baby sister.
