Not as In-Shape as Previously Thought

The up escalator has been out of commission at the Dupont Circle metro station, which is bad news since it is approximately 10,000 steps underground. At least it feels that way. So funny to watch everyone walking in front of you start out climbing the stairs all gung-ho, then begin to lose steam towards the middle. Near the top, we're all looking around and thinking, "Where's my sherpa?"

Kicked!

Earlier this week, I was walking from downtown to Dupont Circle at around 7 p.m., and this man went out of his way to kick me! The sidewalks were deserted; it was just the two of us walking towards one another on a collision course. I gave him plenty of room to walk by, but instead he made a beeline for me and kicked me in the ankle. I turned around and he just glared at me.

He looked like Mr. T and I was scared - but nothing came of it, thank goodness... Perhaps I look intimidating.

Quoted, Vol. 2

"The most potent and sacred command which can be laid upon any artist is the command: wait. Art has its martyrs, not least those who have preserved their silence. There are, I hazard, saints of art who have simply waited mutely all their lives rather than profane the purity of a single page with anything less than what is perfectly appropriate and beautiful, that is to say, with anything less than what is true."

The Books that Time Forgot

Here are some gems from the used book boxes at Saint Sophia's Greek Festival this weekend. Makes you wonder how these got published at all and who thought it was a good idea to buy Anne Heche's autobiography.

Some satanic/supernatural-themed books at the church book sale.

I really wanted to call this number, perhaps this is my soulmate. But what would be my opening line? "I think you lost your book, perhaps I could mail it back to you?"

I don't think naming this "Shazam" will necessarily make it fun.

A lot has changed in haircare since this medical book was published in 1948.
