Brush with a Celebrity of Sorts (Justin Bobby's Song)

This weekend, I went to a club in D.C. with a group of girlfriends. The waiter walked up to us, clasped his hands together and said, "So are you all excited to see Justin Bobby?"

"Who?" we said.

Justin Bobby, Justin Bobby... That sounded familiar. Two first names, not Justin Bieber - oh yeah, it's that guy from The Hills. The one who dated Audrina. Yes, it's all coming back now. What a minor celebrity, I thought. Justin Bobby.

Long story short - we ended up hanging out with him at his table. This is why it pays to have ridiculously good-looking friends. My friend just asked him if we could sit with him and he said sure. He gave me a high five and then I wrote a quick text, "Justin Bobby just gave me a high five." I love how I was so cynical initially and then instantly awed, ha.

But then I told him, "This must be the easiest money you've ever made," referring to his club appearance. He didn't much care for that. Too honest? But Justin Bobby, I give you props, you were perfectly friendly, even to a random chick who insulted you while she drank your alcohol. Will add a picture perhaps later.

Blister in the Sun

So my post about my shoes with laces... What I didn't mention is that almost every one of those shoes gives me blisters. The boots absolutely obliterated my feet. Many, many battle scars.

I think I am more prone to blisters than most, which is unfortunate given that shoe-buying is one of my hobbies. I get blisters just looking at a pair of shoes...Recently after a bone-chilling hobble (in flats, no less! Flats that I've owned without major problems for 5+ years!), I resorted to the "Washington D.C. look" for the commute home.

Now that is giving up.

Anyone have any suggestions? Does Blister Block help?

Have a Nice Life! Or Not. Whatever.

It's really great when after a first date, both parties tacitly agree to never see each other again. This is the best possible option - oh wait, yeah, it would be better if they actually like each other. Scratch that.

But this outcome is way better and less messy than something one-sided. How simple and wonderful to say goodbye, mutually thinking, "Well this was fun, we both merely tolerated one another, but hey, we gave it a shot. The end."

Done and done!

Why'd You Take a Picture of That? NYC Edition

New York is a beautiful city. That will not be evident from the vacation photos I am posting below. Here are the things I chose to take a picture of during my latest trip to NYC:

Extremely crowded subway car, and here's a woman carrying a poodle like a sack of potatoes. The poodle seemed resigned to its lot in life.

Checked out the selection at Economy Candy.

I didn't even think they made candy cigarettes anymore! Political correctness has no place at Economy Candy.

And finally, snapped this photo out the window of the bus as we waited to head back to D.C. Just thought it was funny that this guy is standing the same way the girls in the drawing are standing.

OK, I didn't say it was hilarious, I just said it was funny.

Sorry to post your photo on the Internet, dude loitering outside porn shop. Hope this black bar across your face helps.

ETA: When I got home, I called my mom and offhandedly told her I wanted to move to New York. Here is a loose transcript of our dialogue.

Mom: What? It's expensive and hard to find a job there. And what will you do with all your stuff? Your orange couch?

Me: I guess I'll take it with me.

Mom: And what about when you get laid off in New York?

Me: Hmm... I can always move back home. Can I?

Mom: What about the couch?

Me: I'll put it in storage.

My iTunes in a Line Graph

I never really listened to harpist/singer Joanna Newsom - I had her stereotyped as being too warbly-voiced cutesy for the sake of being cutesy. But then I heard her new album and went to her concert at the Sixth and I Historic Synagogue a few weeks ago, and now I get it. She is awesome and I am adding her to my pantheon of adorable singer-songwriters (mentioned earlier).

Look, here is a visual representation! An Indie Folkie Index - vital information for your everyday life!

Jens is still tops for me but I love them all. Leave me a comment and let me know what other adorable musicians I should add to the line graph.

Yes, I have too much time on my hands. Apologies for using any copyrighted images above.
